Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)
This paper describes the particularities of acquiring the phonetics and phonology of a foreign language, focussing on the perception of the language’s sounds, the pronunciation process as a motoric process of articulation, and relevant psychological and social factors such as group identity and emotions. Special mention is made of the Contrastive Hypothesis and its accuracy regarding the acquisition of pronunciation. Finally, the literature on the specific characteristics of acquiring the pronunciation of a second foreign language (L3) is summarized and reviewed.
