Abstract
Current studies predict a significant increase of combustion engines with 3 and 4 cylinders within the next few years. Due to the fact that the global protection of the environment becomes more and more important, the engine designers are forced to develop new products with simultaneous pressure on less C02 emissions and higher performance. For that purpose high-strength materials in combination with new shaped components are used to achieve these requirements. As a consequence, the production technology has to face new challenges for economical manufacturing processes of powertrain parts. Thus the development of innovative cutfing processes and cutfing tools is the major task of tool manufacturers and operators. Therefore the present technical paper deals with the development of new cutfing tools for reaming and deburring applications as weil as an innovative manufacturing method for machining of cylinder bores.
