Towards A Modelling Framework for Cooperative Multimedia OLDAs.
Konferenzveröffentlichung, Bibliographie

Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

We will report on joint research efforts of the Universities of Kaiserslautern and Karlsruhe together with the Digital Equipment CEC Karlsruhe Research Center. In particular, the following projects (and, alas, acronyms to be recal1ed by the reader) will be discussed:

DOCASE, an integrated toolset and language for the development of object-oriented large distributed ('LD') applications, so-cal1ed OLDAsj this multi-year project is in its final phase. ITEMs, a newly-founded project which draws from the experience of DOCASE and other predecessing activities and which investigates the development support and software technology aspects of OLDAs which are not only 'LD', but include multimedia and cooperative work aspectsj we will cal1 such applications CM-OLDAs in the remainder. DIRECT, an example CM-OLDA which was developed using DOCASE for the most part, but 'handcrafting' the 'CM' (cooperative work, multimedia) parts since DOCASE does not include 'CM' support. DIRECT served three purposes at the same time: evaluation of DOCASE, development of a sampie CM-OLDA, and continued requirements analysis for ITEMs. After aperiod of experimentation with the first version of DIRECT, we think that we can give valuable input about the particular aspects of CM-OLDAs and their modeling and development.
