Abstract

A set of coordinated approaches is presented, contributing to a soft­ware technology suitable for multimedia. In contrast to aseparate "niche" tech­nology, the importance of integration is stressed in the multimedia context. This leads to the notion of cooperative media-integrated software and corresponding software technology. Three important elements of a modeling and development framework for such cooperative media-integrated software are motivated, denoted as ubiquity, modality, and synergy. The latter two elements are elabo­rated by presenting corresponding approaches for multimodal interaction and for workplace and enterprise integration.
