Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

The increasing power and efficiency of today's and of near future's information technology gives the opportunity for new applications in the education and training sector. But still traditional oriented seminar and course based education dominate this area. Conceptual restrictions of current IT-based teaching and training systems and high initial production expenses for courseware material limit their acceptance. This paper describes an approach, which aims at availability, effectiveness and long term use of courseware. In parallel, an efficient creation, re- and multiple use of courseware is supported. In order to achieve these objectives, a modular concept for courseware structure is introduced. Based on this concept of modular courseware a task-oriented process of courseware creation is described to support an efficient way of creating modular courseware. The realisation of the concept of modular courseware combined with the authoring tools is then be presented. This realisation uses WWW distribution and presentation capabilities to enable an easy access. The experiences of the partners using the IDEALS-MTS in the area of SME oriented learning and training show the good usage of the introduced models and concepts in a real life scenario. This include the courseware design aspects, the methods, and the tools used for the production of the courseware components, the administration of the attribute catalogues for knowledge addressing, the courseware integration process, the courseware re-use, and courseware multiple-use by course configuration. this SME oriented demonstration valides the presented concepts and proof the usability of the present authoring process.
