Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)
Macro and micro stickies are characterised by their size and a criteria of determination is the dimension of the slot width during laboratory screening. A slot width of 100 micron is recommended, while for the evaluation of recovered paper for the production of packaging material, a slot width of 150 micron is possible. Detected stickies in the reject are referred to as macro stickies, while adhesive particles in the accept are micro stickies. Orientation values for adhesive applications are under discussion. Several categories of adhesive applications have been tested and for each category, at least some adhesives existed that fulfilled the orientation values. Hot melt adhesives were not really problematic and although the situation with pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) attached as cover around magazines was more difficult, commercial products already exist. The orientation values were different for various categories of adhesive applications and an INGEDE project 129 09 is unde rway to establish numerical values. Orientation values with hard limits will be transferred into ranges of a good, fair or poor adhesive fragmentation with score points. General recommendations for recycling friendly adhesive applications include improvement of screenability by high cohesive adhesive films, thick adhesive applications and bead and film applications instead of dot applications.
