Abstract

Freeform surfaces are playing an important role in architectural design. Challenges for planning and manufacturing technology raising inherently. The Collaborative Research Center 666 of the Technische Universität Darmstadt offers solutions for cost-effective manufacturing. To promote these effects, modular construction systems for freeform surface structures are optimized with a surface derived tool kit. Advances in digitally based geometrical analysis lead to an approximation of a surface structure with mini-series of similar elements produced with the same tools. Drastic reduction of moulding costs can be conceived.
