Using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry, the effects of room-temperature rolling and subsequent annealing treatment on the microstructure and crystallization behavior of the Zr55Cu40Al5 metallic glass ribbons have been investigated. High density of shear bands with spacings less than 100 nm and ordered clusters of 3e5 nm in size in the shear band regions were observed in the room-temperature rolled Zr55Cu40Al5 metallic glass ribbons. In addition, the rolling deformation changes the crystallization behavior of the Zr55Cu40Al5 metallic glass during the isothermal annealing treatment and results in the formation of a new crystalline phase.
