Abstract

Model experiments for investigating the disappearance or coarsening of controlled-geometry intergranular pore arrays are described. Effects of pore size, shape, spatial distribution and spatial density can be evaluated. The potential for measuring lattice and grain boundary diffusivities and assessing the effects of interfacial reactions and dopants on kinetics are discussed.
