Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

In this paper, we describe the use of a reservoir operation model to define dynamic re-leases which are then optimized with regard to multiple – partly conflicting – objectives (flood protection, hydropower production, hydrologic alteration) using evolutionary algorithms. The optimization result is a Pareto-optimal front of solutions in which each individual solution represents one possible optimal trade-off between the target objectives. The methodology is applied to case studies of existing multi-purpose reservoirs in Germany in order to improve operating rules regarding environmental aspects.
