Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

This article puts monosyllables into the context of Quantitative Linguistics (QL). After a short introduction of QL, several approaches on syllables in Quantitative Linguistics are outlined, to wit urn models, Markov models and synergetic models. Then follows a pilot study on Čebanov-Fucks law and entropy in a largely isolating language (Gomai). The results show that even in a language with an over-average portion of monosyllables, the same quantitative laws hold as for Indo-European languages.
