Parametric Studies of eccentrically loaded Sandwich Panels regarding Geometric Ratios.

Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)
The state-of-the-art analytical approach for the calculation of eccentrically loaded sandwich panels used for building construction is discussed in comparison to results from finite element analysis. The results of the analytical and numerical parametric studies provide insights into the scope of application for the existing formulas based on free and warping torsion. Since non-linear torsional stress distribution occurs across the width, mechanical effects other than beam torsion must be considered to thoroughly characterize the load-bearing behaviour of these sandwich panels. In addition to the influence of the shear-deformable core, which has already been widely assessed, studies on the geometric ratios show the transition from beam to shell load-bearing behaviour of these composite components, which is essential to understand the mechanics of eccentrically loaded sandwich panels.
