Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

For steel construction, Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) appears very promising. Here, complicated 3D structures made of steel can be printed comparatively quick by welding multiple layers on top of each other. In contrast to conventional manufacturing this allows a structure to be individually adapted to its requirements. However, this advantage simultaneously entails one problem: each structure is individual and would have to be individually tested. In addition, unforeseen process instabilities or irregularity make each additively manufactured structure unique. In this paper, the material properties of process irregularities (missing shielding gas and voids) are investigated and their consequences are implemented in the finite element analysis. While voids lead to a reduction of the bearable tensile force, missing shielding gas completely changes the behavior of the printed structure and causes a brittle behavior.
