Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

The Internet of Thing (IoT) and the Machine to Machine (M2M) communication technologies are leading toward a paradigm shift allowing the connectivity of very large number of heterogeneous devices such as smartphones, wired and wireless sensors, and vehicles. Also, we present a surveillance system using a Real Time Location System (RTLS), the IoT and the cloud computing. This system provides a ubiquitous computing platform enabling the collection of data from various sensors and actuators as well as the data transfer. The data transferred provide humans with information such as the precise location of objects by utilizing Ultra-Wideband (UWB) distance sensors. It also provides the humans with control events such as the disappearance of an object or the leaving of a perimeter area even in remote physical environments. We use non-visual sensors to overcome the problems of surveillance cameras like the sensitivity to weather conditions or the privacy issue. The system proposed can also be used for monitoring purposes like the documentation of construction progress in a building site. The system is implemented as well as evaluated in a real-world environment.
