Abstract

This article introduces basic concepts relevant to 3D object retrieval. It gives a problem definition, surveys related fields, and presents a general process model for 3D feature extraction. Furthermore, the problem of database indexing is introduced, key 3D object retrieval applications are sketched, and future directions are outlined.
