Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

Roll forming is a continuous manufacturing process, in which sheet metal is subsequently bent by sets of rotating rolls. When roll formed profiles are cut to length, process related residual stresses are released. Thereby the profile ends near the cut-off are deformed, which is known as end flare. Profiles with multiple bending zones tend to vary in direction and amount of flaring for every bent section. In this study it is shown, that the bending angle sequence determines the development of residual stresses during roll forming and how this can be used to optimize the roll forming process to reduce end flare.
