Conference or Workshop Item, Bibliographie

Abstract

The steady progress in complex computer aided manufacturing methods challenges university graduates to better understand modern design methods. While the CAD course at TU Darmstadt introduces first-year mechanical engineering students to the basics of 3D CAD modeling, “Freeform Modeling with Shape Design” is part of the advanced CAD education within the Master curriculum and is highly related to the needs of the modern industrial sectors. Divided into 4 parts with examinations, the course uses a web-based tutorial to teach designing and analyzing freeform surfaces, sheet bodies and curves. Goal of the tutorial CAD Freeform is an introduction to the 3D-CAD system Siemens NX11.0 and especially advanced methods of Shape Design. Content are basic curves and surface generation, editing surfaces, surface and curve analysis and the link of area with solid models.
