Abstract

The problem of how to find an appropriate design for a user interface for hypermedia applications has certain similarities with the problem of finding a suitable visualization for data and information, which is a central topic in the area of Scientific Visualization. In this area a paradigm based on the determaination of user, data, domain, and resource model has been proven to be a suitable approach for the selection of an appropriate visualization method. In this paper we will introduce this paradigm in more detail and propose how this paradigm was applied for the design of a specific hypermedia application, the visualization assistant adVISer. Finally, we discuss the additional constraints to the paradigm imposed for applications in the World Wide Web.
