CASUS Presenter: A High-performance VRML-2.0 Browser based on Java.
In: SUG Info, (1), pp. 18-20. [Article]
Abstract
CASUS presenter is a general purpose VRML 2.0 browser and presentation tool developed at Fraunhofer IGD, Darmstadt, which is tailored to these coming application scenarios. CASUS Presenter was developed for interactive 3D visualization of simulation data, making use of animation and interactive walkthroughs. Since CASUS Presenter is based on VRML 2.0 and fully implemented in Java, it can be used as a flexible VRML 2.0 browser in various application scenarios, especially in World Wide Web applications. Moreover, the use of Java together with a standard 3D graphics library in the realization of CASUS Presenter made it possible to combine very good performance with high portability. CASUS Presenter currently supports the follwing features: - Most geometry, light appearance, and grouping nodes of VRML 2.0; - All fundamental VRML 2.0 mechanisms: PROTOTYPES, instancing and ROUTEs; - Complete texture mapping functionality as defined in the VRML 2.0 specification; - Time-, touch- and proximity sensors; - All interpolator nodes of VRML 2.0; - Java script nodes, implementing the VRML 2.0 Java API; - Stereo viewing with shutter glasses. CASUS Presenter takes advantage of existing 3D hardware through OpenGL. In runs on SGI IRIX, Sun Solaris, and Microsoft Windows 95/NT. It requires the OpenInventor Graphics library
