Abstract
Annotations help learners to organize and understand learning materials, and to add a personalized view. Many systems allow educators or learners to add annotations and to exchange them. However, the systems differ in their features and the supported didactical scenarios. The great variety makes it more difficult to get an overview and to decide which system to choose for a certain scenario. This paper presents both scenarios and categories to provide a structured overview of annotation tools for lecture materials. It further reveals gaps in the systems and opportunities for further research.
