Abstract
4-Functionalized azulenes have become accessible via the sulfonium salt (1), X = SMe₂⁺BF₄⁻. On rearrangement of this salt to (3) the dihydro derivative (2) can be isolated, whose formation is of interest in connection with the Sommelet rearrangement.
