Level-of-Detail Generation and its Application in Virtual Reality

Astheimer, Peter ; Pöche, Maria-Luise (1994)
Level-of-Detail Generation and its Application in Virtual Reality.
Virtual Reality Software & Technology.
Konferenzveröffentlichung, Bibliographie

Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

Virtual worlds have to be presented in realtime in order to enable interactive control, viewing and abject manipulations. The performance of graphics workstations is limited in the maximum number of polygons which can be processed in realtime. Complex world models (which are of prime interest) exceed this limit easily. A set of rendering techniques allow to handle and conquer complex worlds, where level-of-detail techiques prove to be most promising and successful. This paper introduces an interactive tool to be most promising and successful. This pper introduces an interactive tool with a set of methods for the generation of multiple levels-of-detail of objects, demonstrates several examples and the application within IGD's proprietary VR-System "Virtual Design".
