Future Research directions for IT-based, visual applications are presented as visions developed from evolutionary, technological trends and presented based on observations from different views (system,application, user). These visions, for - Human Media Technology -Augmented Reality - Digital Storytelling - Integrated, interactive broadcasting - Multimedia workspaces - Interactive appliances are then discussed in some detail, giving all together a rich picture on what we can expect to be reality in the market place by 2010.
