Transferability of fatigue resistance data in aluminium welded joints

Shams, Ehsan (2014)
Transferability of fatigue resistance data in aluminium welded joints.
35th Symposium on Mechanics of Materials. Faliraki, Greece
Konferenzveröffentlichung, Bibliographie

Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

Welding processes often lead to pronounced weld end points (start/end), which are prone to fatigue events such as crack initiation. The fatigue of weld ends in aluminium welded joints, especially in thin sheet structures, is not sufficiently explored yet. In the present investigation, the real geometry of welds (weld toe & weld root)was obtained by scanning the three-dimensional surface, especially of weld ends. In the experimental part of this research, fatigue testing of thin sheet specimens containing weld ends was performed. Based on the data, weld end S-N curves based on nominal stresses have been obtained. Numerical analyses based on idealised weld end models have been performed illustrated by an example.
