Abstract

Experimental data presented in our earlier paper [Toulemonde et al., Phys. Rev. B 85, 054112 (2012)] indicate that there are two thresholds for damage creation by swift heavy ions in CaF2. Moreover, the comparison of the track sizes observed by transmission electron microscopy and generated by different cluster and monoatomic ion beams supports the occurrence of a velocity effect in this material.
