Abstract

In this work, transport and thermodynamic properties of mixtures of n-hexane with the aldehydes citral, citronellal and dihydrocitronellal, important to the fine chemicals industry, were determined experimentally and compared to theoretical predictions. Liquid binary diffusion coefficients were measured using the Taylor dispersion technique at various temperatures. The Wilke-Chang correlation gave precise approximations. The second part of this work is concerned with the gas-liquid phase equilibrium of citral/n-hexane. The mixture is slightly non-ideal and may be sufficiently described by applying the modified UNIFAC (Dortmund) group contribution method.
