Abstract

We present a scalable approach to congestion control based on explicit congestion feedback. The feedback signaling is carried out using the PTP protocol which is similar to ATM ABR Explicit Rate Feedback but requires no state or exertive calculations at routers. The nonlinear endpoint control law, which is a derivation of CAPC and is implemented entirely at end systems, quickly converges to a fixed and stable point in our analysis and early simulations. Generally, our mechanism appears to be a better choice for high-speed networks than AIMD, which is based on implicit or explicit binary feedback.
